This may be the most important page to my family and I.  The tremendous out pour of support, love, prayers, and thoughts have been overwhelming and very humbling.  I urge you to express your thoughts to me on this page.  It doesn’t have to be about my situation.  I want you to share your lives, your dreams, your fears, and your joys here.

I have learned throughout my life to not hesitate in expressing myself.  What you post here may make my day so much better.  It might be exactly what I needed to hear!  On the other hand, what you post may have a significant impact on another reader.

The power of words and expressing yourself are profound.  If you feel compelled, please share with us.  Thank you for all you do in this life, for my family, for me.  We love you all!

Hey Ryan, I have known you for many years and though we don’t talk much anymore I always remember you as being strong, optimistic and determined. Don’t lose those traits! You have so much support behind you and I have no doubt that you will be successful in kicking this thing in the butt! Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers

Hey old friend. I know you’re to overwhelmed and busy to probably take the time to read this right now and that’s quite alright but hopefully someday you get around to this message and it at the very least puts a smile on your face. You’ve been on my mind the last couple of days and I couldn’t imagine the roller-coaster of emotions especially considering the joys of your beautiful family and now your Andrea expecting another. Now that I have my family, I can relate to the happiness kids can bring into our lives. No matter how hard or stressful my day is at work, when I get home and see my son all my worries go out the window. I also know that me asking if there’s anything I can do for you isn’t really of much help and the prayers I say for you happen without question. Just know that you’ll pull through this, you’ve always been tough and I have no doubt everything will be okay. And know that you’ve got a lot of support, a lot of love, and there’s power in prayer. So be patient everything in life has it’s purpose. Who knows 15 years from now you could be a leading cancer surgeon and our boys will be sneaking out of our houses in the middle of the night to meet up and replace all those chromies and hood ornaments we collected. Hopefully this time my son is getting all the ladies and scoring all the goals in soccer instead of a Humphrey. Alright Ryan take care.

    Hi Ryan,

I’ve seen your posts the last few days, and have been thinking about you quite a bit. I am so very sorry for what you are going through. You have such a beautiful family and, from what I can see on Facebook, a solid support system. How important it is to have loved ones to help you get through this.

I am no stranger to cancer – I lost my mom 8 years ago, and this past November my boyfriend was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Thankfully, his prognosis is good.

It takes people who have been through the ups, and the downs, to really understand how hard this is. It has been years since we’ve spoken, but know that I will continue to think about you and I wish you all of the best in your ongoing battle. Stay strong.

    Hey Ryan,

I saw a long series of what I’m sure reflect a rather difficult time for you right now. I thought I’d reach out and let you know that I’m thinking of you. Additionally, please feel free to let me know if you are seeking any recommendations for a good doctor. I’m close friends with the Director of *******, and after having just gone through a big struggle with another close friend of mine, I have to say they are fantastic at what they do there. I’m sure you’ve been through a lot and sought a number of opinions, but if there’s anything I can do, please let me know.

You must have the strongest most amazing wife in the world. I know you have an amazing support group and hundreds of people rallying behind you and Andrea right now. I wanted you to know that I’m one of them. I’m praying with them. For you, for Andrea and your wonderful lil boys. I know the battle that your family faces. Never forget, you’re not alone. Neither are Andrea or the boys. You’ve always been one of the kindest people I ever knew. I have not one bad memory of you. Be strong. Be positive and brave. I fight with you.

God’s blessings to you and your family Ryan. You have been an inspiration to so many people. Those who know and love you, and also to strangers like myself. God has certainly chosen a wise man to speak His words to many. Thank you.

    Hi Ryan,

I just wanted to send you a little message to let you know I’ve been thinking so much about you and your family. I know we were never very close, but even so, I know you are a great guy who deserves nothing but the best in life. Unfortunately sometimes life has other plans for us. Since I read your first post you haven’t left my mind. I’m storming the heavens with prayers that you fight the crap out of this stupid thing called cancer that somehow always manages to interrupt the most wonderful lives (including my own father’s). Like I told my Dad when he was first diagnosed….YOU WILL BEAT THIS….simply because there is NO OTHER OPTION!!!! I will continue to think of you and pray for you as you fight your fight. Take care of yourself….and love the crap out of that beautiful wife, son and baby on the way!

It has been so long since our Kalamazoo days, yet sometimes it feels like yesterday! I often think about those times and even reminisce with Scott about them! I’ve been reading your posts and I guess I never really new the story or that you had gone through this before. I feel guilty for reaching out to you now when things are bad. I wish that I had kept in touch with you guys. I always admired you and Andrea, and how you all were the perfect couple and your relationship was so true and honest. Every time I read your statuses I cry, and I too along with you, I”m sure, ask why. I just got done reading your last one and I was thinking about it while I was rocking my 4month old to sleep. I found my self crying out loud and praying to God for his healing power. I have always been a christian and had God as my Lord and Savior. However, I may have fallen short a lot in my life, but God is a forgiving, loving God. I don’t know what your spiritual life is like, but I do know that through out Gods salvation and grace he can do great things, including healing miracles. Again, I cant imagine what must go through yours and Andrea’s heads and how strong the hurt is. Please know that even though we have not talked in years I love both of you!!! I will continue to pray for you, my church will continue to pray for you and you too continue praying! There truly is power in prayer!!!

Ps… You may already have read these or heard them but I encourage you to look up James 5:14-15 and James 5:16.

I was so surprised when my daughter mentioned you! My husband and I took care of you and your brothers and sister when we were in Marriage Encounter with your mom and dad MANY years ago.

I’m so sorry to hear about your cancer. She sent me your most recent post and it touched my heart. I’m so glad you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior and that you feel peace in Him.

Know that we are praying for God’s total healing for you. We are also praying for your family that they would find comfort and that others would come to know Christ through your testimony and faith.

I’m so glad to be in touch with you again! I remember you as a very sweet, sometimes mischievous, boy with a contagious laugh! I always loved when your mom asked us to watch you for a weekend, or invited us to your house. Many times I ignored the adult conversation to watch you and your siblings interact.

As you go through this journey, I pray that you see the miracles that happen every day and feel God’s presence in each one of them.

    God’s blessings,

Ryan, I bought a book the other day called Bright Side Up: 100 ways to be happier right now. I should have saved my money and just read your posts everyday. I believe you should think about writing an inspiration book.

  23. Lori says:

Share the gift of prayer today for my alumni student fighting for his life…Ryan Humphrey…no one fights alone and all of us are with him!

  24. Tony says:

You know, you really have a unique talent of being able to put things into perspective… To the extent that others reading it feel inclined to stop and evaluate their own thoughts, put their reservations aside, and embrace the words of another. I appreciate you, man. At a time when I find myself confused about a lot of things, I feel convinced that the answers are there and they will find their way to me.

I have been thinking of what to say to you for a while now. God puts us in situations, some are good, some are troubling and some are down right maddening! Some are to help others and some are to show others. You, my friend are helping and showing others! Your daily posts are inspirational. I cannot imagine what you and your family are going through right now. It doesn’t seem fair. This being your second(I think) time with cancer and all. I offer you my prayers and support. I know it has been a while since we last talked or saw each other, but I support you and I KNOW so many others do to!! Thank You for your up-beat attitude and your uplifting words.

I can still see you rear-ending me in the parking lot at Athens!! LOL:)

God Bless you and your family!

Hello, Ryan. Sending a note of extreme gratitude. I read your postings every morning, after my alarm goes off, on my phone. I too have two children and wife, and your messages are so clear and precise. I’ve been attacking the day more, enjoying my wife and children, family, friends, co-workers, and strangers. Looking at everything through a different lens, all because of your posts.
Today, a FB friend posted this quote, and i thought of you. “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” -John Quincy Adams
    You are a leader Ryan.

It’s not everyday we get to look into another person’s heart and soul. You put your heart and soul into your posts for the world to see. And what we see is a man of great courage, honor, a huge heart and commitment to friends and family I am honored and priviledged to be a member of your support group and to be your friend. You got the right stuff!

  34. Kim says:

I just want you to know that every morning I read your posts and can’t believe how incredibly brave and amazing you are for letting us all read your thoughts and peek into your lives. I look forward to them every single day. And for what it’s worth, shortly after my parents got married my mom was diagnosed with leukemia and given two weeks to live. Needless to say, she’s still here today and has not just gotten to watch her kids grow up, but also enjoy her grandchildren as well!! Sending huge hugs and lots of hope your way. You are amazing!! xoxo

  37. Heather says:

Oh wow this post brings me back. How funny that we were both expecting babies within weeks of each other? So much has happened in these couple of years and it’s amazing how quickly it’s gone. I know you and your family are going through an incredibly tough time right now and you all are constantly in my thoughts. You have an amazing outlook and your posts always manage to bring life into perspective. So I know I don’t have to say it because you already know it but you’re so lucky to be having another little one to enjoy soon. I know there’s a lot going on right now but bringing a new life into this world is incredible. 🙂 Enjoy every second of it.

  38. Tami says:

I look forward everyday to reading your posts! They are so touching and inspirational! We love you guys!……by the way your haircut looks great, do you remember back in the day when I called you the puffy hair guy:)

  39. Danielle says:

Paul and I had the same response to this, we didn’t know you were a fan of country music! Oh the things I learn about you cousin of mine. I think about your big heart, your willingness to help anyone in need, your ability to stay calm in tough situations, your huge smile, your laughter, you are gifted and talented, but kind and sort of a smart ass. There are many reasons I love you, and because of you, Paul and I will sit on the couch, look each other in the eye and make sure the other person knows why they are loved. Thank you. I love you. And Andrea and Landon.

  40. Lori says:

Ryan, It was so nice to see you and meet your beautiful family. I was honored to be able to bring a small piece of the COA to you. We are all with you on this journey. I am so proud of who you are and I admire you so much! Years ago you may have looked up to your professors- now we look up to you and witness your bravery and are so proud of the man you are today!

  41. Brittany says:

One of my favorite RWE quote excerpts (it may even be a part of the one you’re talking about) is “To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; this is to have succeeded.” It’s at the heart of my journey to pediatric oncology… The journey to find fulfillment as a difference maker and a student to some of the greatest teachers in the world. Because it was also Emerson who said “see the world through the eyes of a child.” Whether you intend it or not, you are quickly becoming another driving force in my desire to change a life by making the most of what I have been given. Thanks!

We are so blessed to have seen the world from the sky…I was inspired to follow my passion after watching my father never follow his. It is sad that in his 70 years of life, he did not ever find his passion, or really LIVE his life. We all need to live each day to the fullest, as we really do never know how long we have on this earth. The one thing we do know is that the time is limited, and precious. You are such an inspiration to try and really LIVE each day and cherish the ones we love.

  44. Crystal says:

You are so inspiring! You have a beautiful family and I am praying for you! You deserve greatness doll, and so does your beautiful wife and children! Stay strong!

  45. Kristin says:

You are such an inspiration to me, and everyone else who knows you. Everyday I read your posts and both smile and cry. You have managed to put so many things into prospective for me and I want to thank you for that. You truly are an AMAZING man! As you fight the fight of your life you are still helping so many people! Everyone needs a father, husband, brother or friend like you in their lives. Continued prayers and positive thoughts are sent your way!

  46. Kim says:

I LOVE your thoughts on the best and worst of times at the same time. I’ve experienced times when God has distracted me with some pretty great times and people during some really low times. God is GREAT… ALL the time! Our prayers continue to be with you, Andrea, Landon and Logan as this next chapter starts!

  47. Tom says:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and life with us…you and your family are very strong and special to so many. I look forward to sharing many memories with your family. God bless!
